Support our Troops
The Charlotte County Republican Club has adopted one of our own. Staff Sergeant Chris Grilo, from Port Charlotte has just arrived in Fallujah this week and is in route to Baghdad for his 3rd tour in Iraq. Many of you may know him from his attendance at some of our local republican events.
Betty and Raul Fernandez are heading up a program to send articles to our service men and women to make there difficult job a little more comfortable. So far they have shipped 6 boxes and are planning to continue shipping as long as there are material coming in. Get in touch with the Fernandez's or bring your supplies to the next meeting.

Here is a suggested list of items now popular with troops in Iraq:
- Candy, Cookies, Crackers, Snack Cakes (no icing)
- Trail Mix, Beef Jerky, Canned Chips
- Homemade cookies, brownies
- Cereal Bars or Granola Bars, Fruit in small flip-top cans
- Coffee (instant and regular)
- Powdered drink mixes
- Puzzles, crossword books, board games and cards
- Handheld electronic games, music CDs and DVDs
- Sports items (baseballs, footballs)
- Eye drops (cleaning kind)
- Mints, Toothpaste, toothbrushes
- Lip balm
- Shampoo, deodorant, soap
- Gum Foot powder (no aerosol bottles)
- Handheld fans
- Decent can openers
- Flea collars (scorpion repellent)
- Boot socks
- Feminine body wash, panty liners
- Batteries (AA, AAA, D sizes)
Magazines that cover sports, computers, automobiles, physical fitness for male troops and female-oriented magazines for female troops.
There is no storage in most of the camps. ONLY send what you think they will use in the next few days. Perishable items will burned or thrown away. Liquid is hard to ship and heavy, it seems that shampoos donations are popular and we get more than anyone could begin to use.
CASH Donations for shipping charges are also welcomed.
