Frank Weikel

Honoring -Frank Weikel

Frank is the epitome of an active and committed Republican. For 23 years he served as township trustee in his hometown of Springfield Ohio. Frank and his wife moved to Deep Creek in 1991. It was only a matter of time before Frank was again bitten by the political bug. Weikel was elected to the Charlotte County Board of Commissioners in 1996, upsetting community leader and longtime resident, Gilbert S. Wright. Frank ran again for a second term and was re-elected in 2000.

Currently Frank serves on the Punta Gorda Community Re-development Agency. Frank was cofounder of the Charlotte County Republican Club in 1995.

The Republican of the Year Award was established in 2014 by the Charlotte County Republican Club. Joining with the other county clubs the CCRC sought to recognize a Charlotte County resident who represented the ideals of the Republican Party and exhibited leadership in the advancement of those ideals in both private and public service.

The first award in 2014 went to Ken Roberson, Florida House Representative for District 75. Barbara T. Scott, the outgoing Clerk of the Court was the honoree in 2015. Last year it was my pleasure to introduce our own special club member and State Committee Woman, Jane Sturges as that year’s Republican of the Year.

This year’s Award and Dinner is hosted by the Charlotte County Republican Club. The event will be held at the Isles Yacht Club, 1780 West Marion Ave., Punta Gorda, Fl. on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 with a reception from 6:00 to 7:00 PM followed by dinner and the evening’s program. The price is $80 per person and the menu includes canapes and a cash bar followed by the dinner entrée of Filet Mignon; a fish or vegetarian entrée is also available. We expect to have many of our elected officials in attendance.
